LEXINGTON, Va.—In its final match of the Washington and Lee Invitational, the Southern Virginia University women's volleyball team fell to Roanoke College in a hard fought 3-2 battle Saturday afternoon in Lexington, Virginia.
Freshman outside hitter Hannah Phillips showed dominance in the match, recording 19 kills to lead all Southern Virginia players.
Setter Valerie Arkansas contributed 32 assists, while sophomore April Bennett gave the Knights 20 digs on the defensive side of the net.
For her performance over the four games from the weekend's tournament, freshman Calyn Barry was named to the W&L Invitational All-Tournament team.
With the loss, Southern Virginia falls to 3-5 on the season, while Roanoke College improves to 7-1.
Volleyball has two days off before hosting its home opener on Tuesday, Sept. 9, against Mary Baldwin. The first serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. at The Barn.
