Volleyball Earns Non-Conference Win

BRIDGEWATER, Va.—The Southern Virginia volleyball earned their fifth win of the season over Virignia Union at the Bridgewater College invitational on Saturday, taking the match 3-1.

The Knights (4-15, 0-2 CAC) began the contest with energy taking the first set 25-20. The Panthers (6-12, 2-4 CIAA) answered with a 25-21 win to tie the match.  Southern Virginia refused to back down and seized the last two sets 25-23 and 25-19.

Emma Evans and Hannah Phillips led the Knights' attack with 13 kills each. Claire Houghtaling and Allison Tiegs added to the offense each with 10 kills. At the net, Valarie Baety earned 49 assists. Libero Ofa Moa-Sam Fong led the defense with 34 digs.

Virginia Union's outside hitter Fernanda Faustino led the offensive battle against the Knights with 23 kills.

Southern Virginia volleyball travels to Frostburg, Maryland to take on Frostburg State University on October 14 at 5 p.m.
