Women's Lacrosse Falls in Conference Opener

FREDERICKSBURG, Va.—The Southern Virginia University women's lacrosse team fell to the University of Mary Washington today in the first conference game of the season by a score of 16-3 Saturday afternoon in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

The Eagles (4-1, 1-0 CAC) scored the first five goals of the game in less than seven minutes before the Knights (0-5, 0-1 CAC) were able to get on the scoreboard.

The Knights' first goal came in the ninth minute by junior midfielder Rainey Whitworth. She would score again two minutes later, but the Knights trailed by 10, 2-12, at the half.

The second half would only see five goals, four for the Eagles and a third unassisted goal from Whitworth, making the final score 16-3.

A total of 13 different players scored for the Eagles as attack Corinne Wiederkehr  led with two goals and three assists.

The Knights are back in action Wednesday in a non-conference match against Beloit College. The game is scheduled to begin at The Fields at 5 p.m.
