Knights Triumph Over Lynchburg

LEXINGTON, Va.—The Southern Virginia volleyball team captured their second win of the season in a 3-1 victory against Lynchburg College in the final game of the Washington & Lee Invitational. In their last meeting, at Lynchburg last week, the Knights fell 3-1. 

The Knights (2-8) took an early lead against the Hornets (3-6) in the first set 25-18. Lynchburg bounced back in the second set and defeated the Knights 25-14. Southern Virginia took the last two sets, 25-20 and 26-24.

Three Knights recorded double-digit kills in the win, freshman Allison Tiegs and sophomore Claire Houghtaling and Hannah Phillips recorded 17, 15, and 13 kills respectively.

Middle blocker Melissa Owen aided to defense with 3 blocks.

Lynchburg offense was led by outside hitter Jennifer Garrett with 14 kills.

The Knights travel to Athens, West Virginia on September 15 to take on Bluefield and Concord colleges at 5 and 7 p.m.
