Volleyball Loses Conference Opener

BUENA VISTA, Va.—Southern Virginia volleyball opened conference play facing No. 4 Christopher
Newport University. Despite the tightly contested first set, the Captains swept the Knights 3-0 (25-21, 25-12, 25-15) in the Knights Sports Arena on Tuesday evening.

Southern Virginia (4-12, 0-1 CAC) was led on the attack by Claire Houghtaling and Allison Tiegs with 7 kills each. 

Adding in the battle, outside hitter Hannah Phillips earned 6 kills. Freshman libero Ofa Moa-Sam Fong was a powerful force on defense with 17 digs. Junior Delaney Layton recorded 10 digs.

Christopher Newport's (15-2, 1-0 CAC) Briana Sutton, the National Player of the Week, finished with 11 kills. 

The Knights travel to York, Pennsylvania where they will take on York College on Saturday at 12 p.m.
