VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.—For the second match in a row the Southern Virginia women's volleyball team earned a 3-0 sweep, this time over non-conference opponent Virginia Wesleyan.
The Knights (6-12, 2-3 CAC) led for most of the first set and secured a 25-22 win over the Marlins (13-13, 4-4 ODAC). In set two, the Knights trailed 20-12, and again 24-19 before rallying for the 27-25 victory.
Southern Virginia was then able to close out the third set with an 8-1 run to complete the sweep, and win game three 25-20.
"Tonight was awesome," heach coach Nicole Gwynn said. "Our persistance and consistancy was great, the setters did a fantastic job involving all of our hitters, and they played with great aggresiveness and found open spots in (Virginia Wesleyan's) defense."
The Knights recorded their highest team hitting percentage in two season, recording 52 kills and only 14 errors in 120 total attacks.
Penny Gwynn led all hitters with 16 kills and a percentage of .467. Hannah Allred recorded 14 kills while Morgan Starkie, Emma Evans and Alexandria Felkins had hitting percentages over 33%.
Setters Valerie Baety and LaRee Crockett combined for 40 assists.
The Knights return home for a weekend doubleheader against St. Mary's College of Maryland and Marymount University on Friday and Saturday. The Knights are still in the mix for the CAC postseason tournament with four conference games remaining.
