LEXINGTON, Va.—The Southern Virginia baseball team fell to Frostburg State Wednesday afternoon by a margin of 17-8 after the Bobcats broke the lead open with a seven-run seventh.
Up until the seventh the Knights (5-12, 1-3 CAC) were never down by more than three runs and scored first in the bottom of the first when Jordan Nase came across on a double play to put Southern Virginia on the board.
Frostburg (8-3, 2-1 CAC) scored two in the top of the third that were quickly answered by the Knights as Ryan Saunders doubled to center to bring in Cody Davis and Marcus Begg singled to score Saunders.
Four runs in the fourth for Frostburg were answered by a pair of runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to tie the game 6-6.
Begg and Davis Jones hit back-to-back homeruns in the fifth and Zach McNally scored on a Saunders' single in the seventh.
The Bobcats doubled their score in the seventh inning, taking a 13-6 advantage after seven hits and seven runs.
The Knights would score a run in each of the last two innings to fall 17-8. Jordan Nase and Nick Carter earned RBIs.
Seth Burris pitched six innings in the loss, recording six strikeouts.
The Knights look for their second and third conference wins in a double header at Penn St.-Harrisburg on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
