LYNCHBURG, Va.—The Southern Virginia women's volleyball team won their second match of the year in a decisive 3-1 triumph over Randolph College.
"I'm really proud of the team tonight and how they played. They set the tone (of the match) and never gave up," head coach Nicole Gwynn commented. "Penny, Hannah (Allred), and Allison set a high standard of aggresivness on the outside and Hannah (Hosier) and Valerie ran the floor with consistency."
The Knights (2-7) won the first set 25-21, before routing the Wildcats (2-11) 25-13 in the second set after an 8-0 lead to start the game. Southern Virginia then dropped set three in a very tightly contested 30-28 decision, before tightening up to win set four 25-13.
Penny Gwynn led all attackers with 21 total kills and 52 attacks, followed by Hannah Allred's 17 kills and Allison Tiegs' 14. Gwynn and Hannah Hosier led the Knights with 20 digs apiece and setter Valerie Baety assisted 48 of the team's 58 total kills.
