BUENA VISTA, Va.—The Southern Virginia women's volleyball team earned a 3-0 sweep over Eastern Mennonite University Tuesday evening, in their first of three home matches this week.
"Tonight was a big game for us," Coach Nicole Gwynn commented after the win, "it was a great morale boost to get us in the right mentality as we face two of the best teams in the conference this week."
After falling being 5-0 in the first set Southern Virginia (3-9) bounced back to capture the win, 25-17. In game two the Knights reached set point with a ten point lead (24-14) over the Royals (8-8), but allowed seven straight points before earning the set-winning point. The Knights won set three 25-20.
Hannah Allred led all hitters with 11 kills, and had three solo blocks. Valerie Baety recorded 20 assists and Hannah Hosier led all players with 11 digs.
Freshman Ryan Dubinsky earned her first start of the season, recording three kills for the Knights (3-9). "I'm proud of (Ryan) who did her job well tonight," Gwynn mentioned.
The Knights open conference play Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. against the University of Mary Washington.
