BUENA VISTA, Va. — The Southern Virginia University women's volleyball team had their 13-game win streak snapped at home by non-conference opponent Virginia Wesleyan in a 3-1 home defeat on Tuesday night. 

Virginia Wesleyan (14-8) was able to pull ahead 2-0 after winning sets one and two 25-19 and 25-23. Southern Virginia (17-5) rallied in the third set to win 25-22, but the Marlins pulled out the victory in four, 25-20.

The Knights' attack was as good as ever, with Penny Gwynn and Hannah Allred notching 21 and 20 kills, respectively. They also each had a double-double with 10 and 18 digs. In total, the Knights recorded 57 total kills in the match, compared to the Marlins' 46.

The difference in the match came at the service line, with Southern Virginia combining for 19 service errors and falling below its average of 2.21 service aces per set. 

Defensively, libero Mykynli Knight led all players with 20 digs. Freshman Lindsay Hyer and junior Allison Tiegs chipped in seven and six kills. Hyer also led the Knights with three total blocks. Setter LaRee Crockett dished 46 assists and had 14 digs in her sixth double-double. 

Tonight marked the Knights' fourth match in five days. The team will take Wednesday and Thursday to recover and prep for their biggest game of the year at No. 23 Christopher Newport University. Both teams currently sit at 5-0 in Capital Athletic Conference play. Service is set for 6 p.m. in Newport News, Va. The Knights will then head to Mary Washington on Saturday for a 3 p.m. match.
