Women's Volleyball Defeats Marymount, Advances to Semifinal

BUENA VISTA, Va. — The Southern Virginia University women's volleyball team rallied from the first-set loss to top Marymount University 3-1 in the first round of the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament. 

The Knights (22-7, 8-2 CAC) started out a little slow with just twelve points in the first set and as Marymount (14-14, 4-6 CAC) hit an unprecedented .545 percent. Southern Virginia bounced back to take games two, three and four 25-21, 25-22, and 25-19 in front of an electric home crowd. 

Senior Penny Gwynn led all players with 15 kills and had a double-double with 11 digs. Hannah Allred picked up 13 kills and three blocks with nine digs. Setter LaRee Crockett finished with 35 assists and sits 29 shy of 1000 assists this season. Crockett also aced the Saints four times from the service line.

Libero MyKynli Knight led the Knights with 13 digs. 

Southern Virginia enters their second CAC semifinal in program history as they head to the University of Mary Washington on Thursday. Service begins at 7 p.m. in Fredericksburg, Va.
