BUENA VISTA, Va. — Despite Mother Nature making a statement with three inches of snow on the first day of spring break, the Southern Virginia University women's lacrosse team convincingly defeated Concordia University 18-6 for its second win of the season.

Lauren Thatcher began the Knights' (2-4) scoring 55 seconds into the game, followed by back-to-back goals from Megan Barfuss and Hannah King during the next six minutes.

Natalie Rice scored Southern Virginia's sixth goal before Concordia (1-6) was able to connect and get on the board. The Knights outscored the Cardinals 7-4 the rest of the half to take a 13-5 lead at the intermission.

In the second half, the Knights continued to pace, scoring five goals in the first 15 minutes of the half, and allowing one Concordia goal.

Because of the snowy conditions, the game was called with 11:55 to go, just past the 80% played mark which allows the game to count as a complete contest.

Barfuss and Rice finished with four goals apiece, with Barfuss adding two assists. Majikaleah Knowles recorded a hat trick and Hannah King and Lauren Thatcher each found the back of the net twice.

Caiti Knowles, Ashley Lessing, and Jesse Case chipped in goals as well.

Madilyn Krauss earned the win in goal with two saves in the first half.

Hannah King leads the Knights this season with 14 goals followed closely by Lauren Thatcher and Natalie Rice with 11 and 10, respectively. 

The Knights will spend spring break in Hilton Head, S. C. where they will face Northwestern St.-Paul on Thursday at 11:30 a.m.
