BUENA VISTA, Va. — The Southern Virginia University baseball team fell in extra innings Thursday afternoon to No. 11 Frostburg State in Capital Athletic Conference action, 8-5. The game was tied at five after the ninth and tenth until the Bobcats scored three in the eleventh to steal the win.

The Knights (9-10, 1-3 CAC) got on the board in the bottom of the first inning as a Cole Critchfield single scored Caleb Layden. Frostburg (13-4, 1-1 CAC) scored runs in each of the next four innings to take a 5-1 lead midway through the fifth.

Southern Virginia was able to get a pair of runs in the bottom half of the fifth, coming from an RBI single by Layden and a run by Ryan Saunders, who scored on the throw down to second as Layden went for the stolen base and was tagged out.

The Knights cut the lead to one with a run in the sixth, scored by Critchfield on a Riley Daniels single.

Trailing by one in the bottom of the ninth, Saunders led off the frame for the Knights with a single up the middle. He advanced to second on a Layden sacrifice bunt, and tied the game up at five on a Stetson Kay single. The Knights were unable to get another run across the plate in the inning, forcing extra baseball.

in the tenth, neither club was able to score a run. The Knights were able to prevent the Bobcats from scoring with two outs, despite having runners in the corners. 

Frostburg's scoring drought was ended in the top of the 11th inning, as the Bobcats were able to string together four hits, along with a Knight error, to take a three-point lead that would be enough for the win. 

Kay, Critchfield, and Canon Anderson recorded doubles for the Knights. Sanders led the team with two runs scored.

Justin Davis had the start on the mound for the Knights, throwing a no-decision as Jonathan Hodges pitched 4.0 innings and was handed the loss.
