Box Score FROSTBURG, Md. — The Southern Virginia University men's lacrosse team fell just short of a victory Wednesday afternoon as they matched up against tough Capital Athletic Conference rival Frostburg State University and lost 11-9.
The Knights (8-6, 2-3 CAC) found themselves in a battle all game long. The Bobcats (8-6, 3-2 CAC) managed to pull ahead by one or two points before the Knights would cut into the lead. The pattern began in the first quarter with Frostburg striking first, to be answered two minutes later by last season's CAC Rookie of the Year
Shawn Lamb.
After two more Frostburg goals in the first quarter, Lamb found the back of the net to make the score 4-2.
Southern Virginia pulled within one in the second period after goals from
Anthony Good and
Isaac DeGarlais, but trailed at the intermission 6-4.
The Knights managed to tie the game up at six, seven, and eventually eight goals apiece with 9:29 remaining in the final period of play. Frostburg State was then able to convert twice in a one minute period to take the lead 10-8 with 6:21 remaining. Minutes later, Good scored again on an assist from
Tennison Schmidt, cutting the lead to one. Frostburg State was then able to score with 12 seconds remaining, ultimately putting the game out of reach, taking the win 11-9.
Shawn Lamb finished his impressive performance with five goals on 13 shots and dished out an assist.
Cayd Rich was the other Knight who scored, with his goal coming in the third quarter.
Ian Arave was dealt the loss in goal but earned eight saves.
The Knights will return to action April 14 as they continue conference play against Wesley. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at Knight Stadium in Buena Vista, Va.
