BUENA VISTA, Va. – On a bright and sunny Senior Day, the Southern Virginia University men's lacrosse team posted a dominant 21-7 victory over Wesley College.

After a first quarter in which the Wolverines (3-10, 1-5 CAC) took a 3-2 advantage, the Knights (9-6, 3-3 CAC) gained total control of the game in the second quarter, scoring seven goals in an eight-minute span and holding the Wolverines scoreless.

Southern Virginia continued to dominate in the third frame, scoring six more times to bring the unanswered goal streak to 13. After more than 30 scoreless minutes, Wesley put two in the back of the net in just 30 seconds of time, and another one just before the period ended to bring the tally to 17-6.

The Knights took care of business in the fourth, scoring four goals and allowing only one for the 21-7 win.

Making his first start of the season, senior Derek Lamb was stopping just about everything in goal, saving 16 of the Wolverines' 23 shots on goal. The 16 saves match Lamb's career high for a single game.

On the offensive side, the Knights boasted a balanced attack in which 13 different players scored a goal. Leading the way for the squad were Seth Garff with three goals and season-high four assists, Shawn Lamb with three goals and three assists, and Brady Cook with three goals and four ground balls.

Also with solid games were Tennison Schmidt with a pair of goals and three assists, and Ty Veres with two scores. Jace Thomas held it down at face-off, winning 17 of 20 battles to give the Knights great opportunities.

The five seniors honored after the game were Derek Lamb, Anthony Good, Colin Maxfield, Andrew Lessing, and Mike Anderson. Each senior was either a three or four-year player, and each made major contributions to the program.
