NEWPORT NEWS, Va.— The Southern Virginia women's volleyball team faced a difficult loss to Christopher Newport University Wednesday night falling in three sets 28-26, 25-23, and 25-14. 

LaRee Crockett and Courtney Singleton played excellent defensively leading the Knights (13-9, 2-4) in digs with eight followed closely by Emma Steiger with seven. Taryn Warner had a game-high three blocks along with a .200 hitting average while Kylee Christensen earned two service aces on the night. Elle Warnick dished out 11 assists along with Crockett dishing out eight of her own. Singleton was the only Knight to reach double-figures in kills with a team-high 10. 

The first set saw the most action going into extra points at the end. Both teams struggled offensively in the opening set hitting below .120. The Captains (18-7) managed to gain the advantage on Southern Virginia late to go up 1-0 in the first set. 

In the second set, the Knights did not allow CNU to get comfortable totaling 14 tied scores along with nine different lead changes. Christopher Newport for the second straight set found a way to secure another set victory. 

The Knights were unable to slow down the Captains in the third set, despite their best hitting of night. Christopher Newport produced their game-high .321 hitting percentage in the final set to seal the 3-0 win. 

Christopher Newport held the advantage in blocks (8-4) and hitting percentage (.229-.091) in the win. 

The Knights host York College on Saturday and look to get revenge for an earlier season loss to the Spartans. The game begins at noon on the 19th.
