Box Score BUENA VISTA, Va. — The Southern Virginia women's volleyball team swept York College Saturday afternoon 25-18, 25-20, 25-12.
The Knights (14-9) awaited York (14-12) to arrive at Knight Arena for a rematch due to an earlier season loss to the Spartans.
Kaely Rath had a spectacular game leading the team in kills with ten and a .333 hitting average. She added three blocks to go along with her kills. Freshman Emma Steiger had a game-high 15 digs, and Lindsay Wiedrich dominated at the net with five blocks on the day. LaRee Crockett dished out 16 assists, while Elle Warnick dished out ten of her own. Crockett was a force serving handing out five service aces on the day.
In the first set, Crockett found a groove while serving to help the Knights jump out to a five-point lead midway through the set. The Spartans cut into the Knights lead bringing the set to within two points. Southern Virginia then went on to outscore the Spartans 9-5 to secure the first set victory.
Early mistakes by York helped the Knights start the second set with a quick lead. Kaely Rath led the set with four kills while three final errors from the Spartans sealed the set for the Knights to go up 2-0.
The duo of Crockett and Freshman Kylee Christensen dominated the serve in the third and final set as they combined for six service aces. Junior Ryan Dubinsky recorded a kill with the assist from Crocket to push the Knights up 23-11. Two late Spartan attacking errors completed the sweep for the Knights.
Southern Virginia travels to the University of Mary Washington, looking to improve their placing in the CAC playoffs at 7 pm.
