Box Score NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — The Southern Virginia University women's traveled to face No. 13, Christopher Newport in a Capital Athletic Conference matchup with the Knights falling 8-0.
The Knights' (0-14, 0-3) goalkeeper Kyla Nase headlined for the defense as she faced a barrage of Captains (11-4, 1-1 CAC) shots. The freshman set a new program and CAC record in saves in a single game as she was tested at the net tallying an impressive 45 saves. Nase's 45 saves becomes the most in Division III for the 2019-20 season in a single game.
In the first half of play, the Captains built a 7-0 lead after scoring three goals in the first quarter and four more goals in the second quarter.
The Knights defense made significant strides in the second half as they held the Captains to just one goal in the third quarter and then followed the final quarter of play with a shutout.
Charley Drew, Kristina Larson, Grace DeGruccio, and Whitney Victory each recorded a defensive save in the loss.
Abby Asuncion and Madison McGowan led the Captains with two goals each.
Southern Virginia completes their two-game road trip at No. 3 Salisbury on Saturday, Oct. 26, with a start time set for 1 p.m.
