Box Score SWEET BRIAR, Va. — The Southern Virginia University women's field hockey team fell short Friday afternoon at Thayer Field, falling 1-0 on the road against the Sweet Briar Vixens.
In the first quarter, the Knights (0-10) managed to hold the Vixens (3-7) scoreless.
The lone score of the game came in the second quarter when Rae Rae Dillon scored from five yards out with Alexis Jones recording the assist, giving Sweet Briar the 1-0 lead.
The Knights had an opportunity in the third quarter when Elizabeth Sorto attempted to tie the game, but Vixen goalkeeper Rosemary Austin was able to stop the shot to maintain the 1-0 advantage.
Southern Virginia's defense continued its strong performance as they shut out the Vixens to keep them within striking distance.
In the fourth quarter, neither team was able to shrink or extend the lead as the Vixens went on to earn the 1-0 victory.
Besides the shot from Sorto, Mariely Aquin was the only other Knight to record a shot attempt.
Southern Virginia was outshot 12-2 and in penalty corners 5-2.
Kyla Nase stationed the goal for the Knights as she collected three saves.
Southern Virginia begins Capital Athletic Conference play Saturday, Oct. 12, on the road at York (Pa.) with the start time slated for noon.
