BUENA VISTA, Va. — The Southern Virginia women's volleyball team fell to the Roanoke Maroons on senior night in five sets 25-23, 22-25, 25-20, 24-26, 14-16. 

Senior Ryan Dubinsky led the way for the Knights with a .273 hitting average, and junior Kaely Rath had a game-high 18 kills while posting a .240 hitting average. Junior Lindsay Wiedrich steadied the net for Southern Virginia with four blocks. Senior Mykynli Knight stood tall defensively with a game-high 18 digs and senior LaRee Crockett capped the night off with 30 assists. 

Starting off the game, the Knights (15-12) had to come back from an early deficit being down 13-5. Three consecutive kills from McKaye Cunningham brought Southern Virginia back and pushed them to their first lead. Taryn Warner topped off the set win with a kill dished out by Elle Warnick. 

The Maroons (14-14) rallied with a set two victory to tie the match up off an error by the Knights. 

Southern Virginia utilized a 12-4 scoring run in the third set to establish a healthy lead in the third set. The Knights used errors from Roanoke in the last two points to go up 2-1 in the match. 

The fourth set saw things get exciting, with extra points being needed to end the set. Roanoke got the upper hand, and the final two points needed to force a fifth set. 

The Maroons came back from 3-0 deficit and went up 9-8 before teams exchanged points. In the end, Roanoke secured the match victory off an error by the Knights. 

Southern Virginia begins Capital Athletic Conference tournament play on Tuesday, November 5. The Knights will host York College at 7 p.m.
