Box Score BUENA VISTA, Va.—The Southern Virginia University women's lacrosse team defeated DeSales University 15-9 on a rainy Saturday morning.
The Knights (1-1) jumped out to an early lead on the Bulldogs (0-1), 9-2 with 2:17 remaining in the first half. The Bulldogs then scored a pair of goals in the final two minutes of play, cutting the Knights' lead to five, 9-4 heading into the locker-room.
In the second, DeSales outscored the Knights 4-1 in the first fifteen minutes of the half, bringing the score to 10-8 in favor of the Knights. The rest of the game was all Southern Virginia as they scored five of the game's next six goals, winning their home-opener 15-9.
Caitriona Knowles, Lauren Thatcher, and Jordan Gunderson all led the way for the Knights, each scoring three goals. Megan Barfuss also had a big game for Southern Virginia with five assists to go along with a pair of goals. Chloe Mitchell played a major role in the Knights' success as well with a game-high nine ground balls, a team-high six draw clears and two goals.
The Knights return to action as they stay at home to face off against Greensboro College on the 26th of February at 4 p.m.
