FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.— The Southern Virginia University cheer and dance teams competed this past weekend in the CCA Nationals at the Crown Coliseum and Complex, finishing the competition with several first-place finishes.
In the cheer section, each team was given two rounds. After a strong performance in the Small Collegiate Co-Ed Division, the team earned first-place overall.
An additional stunt group participated in the Stunt-a-Thon where they finished second. The team consisted of D. Hannah Cipriano, Caitlin Rice, Hannah Nickel, Aaron Chadwick with Jessica Bird.
In the last cheer competition, Abby Taylor won the Jump-off competition in a field of 30 athletes.
In the dance competition, the dance team took first in the Small Collegiate Co-Ed Dance Division performing a jazz routine.
Victoria Bisel took home a first-place in dance solo performing a contemporary piece. Teammate Sarah Bunker placed second overall in dance solo performing a contemporary/point piece.
The Christian Cheerleaders of America (CCA) Nationals consisted of Averett University, Kentucky Christian University, and Regent University.
