Box Score BALTIMORE, Md. — The Southern Virginia University field hockey suffered a loss on the road Saturday afternoon in the season opener of their inaugural season falling to Notre Dame (Md.) 3-0.
"This game helped us progress as a team today," said Head Coach Camille Lamb. "We've been trying players in new positions to find our flow and we learned a lot about ourselves as a team. We have some great strengths to play on in the coming games. I was glad to see we have the ability to pick up the game with more intensity in the third and fourth quarters."
The Gators (1-0) scored first in the fifth minute of the first quarter on an unassisted goal in the opening quarter to take a 1-0 lead over the Knights (0-1).
Notre Dame (Md.) extended their lead in the second on a score coming by way of a corner, to now take a 2-0 advantage at the half.
In the third quarter, the Knights defense responded posting a shutout keeping the Gators out of the goal.
In the final quarter of play, the Gators added one more goal to seal the game and a 3-0 victory.
The Knights offense was locked down by the Gators defense as they were unable to get a shot off in the game.
Kyla Nase managed to collect a total of seven saves in the loss.
