Box Score BUENA VISTA, Va. — The Southern Virginia University women's volleyball team was dealt their third loss of the season after falling to Meredith 3-2 in Lexington, Va at the Washington and Lee Invitational.
In the opening set, the Knights (3-3) fell to the Avenging Angels (3-1) 25-19, giving Meredith the 1-0 advantage in the match.
In set two, Southern Virginia was able to rebound after their first set loss with a 25-22 win to tie the match up at 1-1.
The third set featured a close set in which Meredith was able to edge out the Knights 25-23 taking the lead 2-1 in the match.
The back-and-forth play between the two continued into the fourth set as Southern Virginia was able to capitalize on their .412 hitting average and take the set 30-28, forcing a deciding fifth set.
Meredith was able to connect on their hitting as they outhit the Knights in the fifth set and win the match 3-2.
Junior Kaely Rath led Southern Virginia in kills with 23 and a .388 hitting average on the night. Mykynli Knight had a game-high 22 digs while freshmen Kylee Christensen and Emma Steiger added 12 of their own. Junior Elle Warnick had a game-high 50 assists, and junior Lindsay Wiedrich led the Knights with a game-high four blocks.
Southern Virginia will head back to Lexington, Va. for a pair of games tomorrow Sept. 7.
