Box Score 2 STAUNTON, VA. — The Southern Virginia University women's volleyball took on Meredith College and William Peace University in a doubleheader weekend with the Knights splitting the games. Southern Virginia fell to Meredith in four 3-1, while defeating William Peace in five 3-2.

Game One:
- The Knights found themselves down 16-9 early in the first set, but Elle Warnick set up Courtney Pinkston to spark a 5-1 run to come within three 18-15
- The Avenging Angels outscored the Knights the remainder of the set and took the 1-0 lead in the match, taking the first set 25-21
- Meredith again went ahead early in the second set, building an 8-3 lead
- The Avenging Angels maintained the lead, with both teams going back and forth, with Meredith holding the 20-14 advantage late in the set
- A final kill from Whitney Bolton gave Meredith the 2-0 lead with another 25-21 set win
- Southern Virginia pulled themselves together in the third set, mirroring Meredith with an early 8-3 lead with a kill from Courtney Pinkston and Brenna Clyde
- The Knights extended their lead to ten 18-8 late in the third with three kills each from Brenna Clyde and Courtney Pinkston, along with nine assists from Elle Warnick
- Elle Warnick and Courtney Pinkston connected with two more kill, with Katelyn Chamberlain adding an ace to deny the sweep from Meredith 25-17
- The Avenging Angels made quick work of the final set, building a 9-3 lead
- The Knights cut the deficit to three 10-7, but Meredith extended their lead back to eight pints 20-12
- The Avenging Angels used to final kills to take the set win 25-18, and take the match 3-1
Game Two:
- After falling in the first set 25-20, Southern Virginia turned it around in the second set
- The Knights held an 8-6 lead at the beginning of the second, led by two Sydney Hopkin kills
- The Pacers regained the lead 12-9, but Elle Warnick connected with Taryn Kartchner for the kill that ignited a 10-2 run (with five Brenna Clyde kills) to bring the new score to 19-14
- William Peace tied the game up at 22, but two errors from the Pacers cost them the set, with the Knights taking set two 25-22
- William Peace regained the match lead 2-1 after dominating the third set 25-17
- Brenna Clyde led all players in the third with four kills
- The fourth saw both teams neck and neck trading leads the entirety of the set
- Elle Warnick set up Courtney Pinkston for a kill, setting up the team with set point to force an extra set
- A costly attacking error from the Pacers gave the Knights the set victory 25-23 to head into the fifth set
- Southern Virginia raced out to a 9-5 lead, led by two Sydney Hopkin kills, and a Taryn Kartchner solo block
- The Knights outscored the Pacers the remainder of the set to lock in the 3-2 victory
Southern Virginia returns home to Knight Arena to take on Averett University in a USA South Conference matchup on Thursday, October 21. Game time is scheduled for 6 pm.
