Knights Fall to Averett in Four

DANVILLE, VA. — The Southern Virginia University women's volleyball team was handed their first conference defeat of the season Wednesday night, falling to Averett University in four sets 3-1.

Game Notes

  • The Cougars set the pace of the game early, building an early 11-4 lead
  • Averett held onto the lead, taking the first set 25-17
  • Regrouping in the second set, Southern Virginia gained a 7-2 lead started by a Brenna Clyde kill and led by two Sydney Hopkin kills
  • Both teams went back and forth, with the Knights returning a 25-17 set victory to the Cougars and tying the game 1-1
  • Southern Virginia was unable to complete the comeback, with Averett claiming the following two sets, locking in their 3-1 victory over the Knights

Southern Virginia travels to Staunton, Virginia, for a doubleheader weekend on Saturday, October 2. The Knights will take on NC Wesleyan at noon, and Methodist at 2 pm.
