Southern Virginia Women's Lacrosse Advances to USA South Conference Championship with Win Over Averett

RALEIGH, NC. — The Southern Virginia University women's lacrosse team advanced to the USA South Conference Championship Friday night, taking down Averett University 15-6. With the win, the Knights make their way to the team's first conference championship in program history.

  • Recently names USA South Conference Player of the Year, Alissa Johnson led all players with seven points with five goals and two assists
  • Adelaide Smith followed Johnson, scoring four goals while Tyler John scored two goals
  • In the cage, Jessica Webb recorded eight saves on 14 shots faced
  • After the first quarter, the Knights held the 7-1 advantage with Adelaide Smith, Alissa Johnson, and Tyler John scoring two goals 
  • Smith scored the lone goal in the second quarter, leading the team into the halftime break with the 8-1 lead
  • After three quarters, the Knigts held their seven goal lead with Johnson leading all players with two goals
  • In the final quarter of play, Southern Virginia outscored Averett 3-1, walking away with the 15-6 victory

The Knights take on Meredith University on Saturday, April 30, for the USA South Conference Championship. Game time is scheduled for 3 pm.
