Lexington, VA - The Southern Virginia University men's and women's swim teams stayed close to home over the weekend by competing in the Keydet Invite at the Virginia Military Institute. During the two day meet the Knights managed to win two events and went home with several top three finishes.
On the men's side, Ned Hill put together a season best performance in the 50 freestyle by clocking a time of 22.45. Roman Nowell also delivered another weekend of solid showings, earning second place in the 100 freestyle with a time of 48.90, and third place in the 200 butterfly in 1:57.63.
The dynamic duo of Jamie Horne and Jesi Fuhriman led the way for the women's team again and played a big part in both event victories for the Knights. Jamie Horne got things rolling by claiming gold in the 200 freestyle. Her time of 2:02.09 was well ahead of her seed time and the next best finisher by over three seconds. Jesi Fuhriman came inches from a victory in the 100 breaststroke after obliterating her season best time, finishing in 1:09.51.
Horne would claim a couple of more top three finishes in the 50 and 100 freestyle events while Fuhriman earned another second in the 100 butterfly. Along with Andie Prince's second place in in the 400 IM, Madelynn Fenwick's second place in the 200 backstroke and an impressive team win in the 200 freestyle relay, the Knights continue to make impressive strides towards their conference championship meet in February.
The team will take an extended break over the holidays with their next meet coming in late January when they face Lynchburg. For the most up-to-date information and details on the team, visit knightathletics.com and follow @knight_swimming on Instagram.
