Box Score Bridgewater, VA - The Southern Virginia University women's lacrosse team faced Bridgewater College on Wednesday afternoon, marking their final non-conference game on the road this season. The Knights had a hard time finding the back of the net, as Bridgewater managed to with ease. In the end, the Knights lost to the Eagles with a final score of 18-4.
Turnovers became a problem for both teams in the opening minutes, but Bridgewater was able to knock in a couple of goals seven minutes into the game. The Knights stood a chance after Ellie Patterson took advantage of a free position attempt to put her team on the board, bringing Southern Virginia to within one.Â
From there, it was all Bridgewater. The Eagles went on to score two quick ones at the end of the quarter before going on a seven goal run in the second. The Knights were limited to only two of the thirteen draw controls in the half. This gave the Eagles the offensive upper hand. After their seven goal run, Bridgewater took an 11-1 lead into halftime. Â
Southern Virginia's Reagan Bullock had sent numerous shots toward the goal all afternoon and finally got one to connect, giving the Knights another goal just before the end of the quarter. Bullock totaled five shot attempts and two shots on goal to lead the Knights' attack. Â
In the final quarter, Patterson was able to punch in the last two goals of the day for Southern Virginia, both off of free position shots. Makenzie Mickelsen did what she could in the second half, picking up seven draw controls, while Mariela Perez led the defensive effort, gaining three ground balls and forcing two turnovers from the Eagles. In the end, the deficit was too much to overcome and Bridgewater won the match, 18-4.
The Knights will try to flip things around by traveling to Georgia to play Piedmont in their second conference matchup this season. The match will take place on Saturday, March 15th at 11:00 AM.
