LEXINGTON, Va. - Several Knights were back on the track over the weekend as Southern Virginia University participated in the VMI Challenge, their second stint at VMI's state-of-the-art indoor facility.
Men's Results
In the long sprints, Madsen Richardson produced a quality result in his season opener over 400m, clocking in at 51.47 to place third in his heat.
The field athletes took center stage in several events, including Jakaidyn Ross' fourth place finish in the triple jump after he flew for 13.85 meters (45' 5.25") on his first attempt. Tommy Skidmore and Sawyer Apple garnered points in the high jump as well.
The best overall finish belonged to Jak Martin in the pole vault. Martin cleared a height of 4.25m (13' 11.25") in just one try to capture second place and was the top Division lll finisher.
Women's Results
The women's team had several standouts in a wide array of events. Bayleigh Redd-Armstrong, fresh off a national championship appearance in cross country, scored points in the mile and 600.
In the mile, she ran a personal best of 5:11.31 to place fourth and then finished sixth in the 600 with teammate Tessa Miller in tow.
The field athletes stood out again, scoring major points in four of the six events. Mikki Prows and Anna Kunz contributed points in the high jump and pole vault, while Prows showed her versatility with excellent results in the throws as well.
Prows threw for a personal best of 11.45m (37' 6.75") in the shot put to finish fourth, just behind Surraiya Mahmud-Newman, who also registered a personal best of 11.66m (38' 3.25").
Looking Ahead
The Knights continue to speed through a condensed indoor schedule in preparation for the USA South Indoor Championships at the end of February,
Next up, they'll travel south to Lynchburg for the Liberty Open at a traditionally very competitive venue. The meet will take place from Friday, January 23rd to Saturday, January 24th at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex.
