Virginia Beach, Va. — The Southern Virginia University women's golf team captured first place at the 2026 Marlins Invitational, hosted by Virginia Wesleyan University.
The Knights put together a strong two-day performance, finishing with a team score of 645 (+69). Southern Virginia surged ahead with an impressive opening round and held its lead despite challenging weather conditions on day two.
Sydney Richards led the way, earning the individual title with a two-day total of 149 (+5). Richards opened the tournament with an even-par 72, highlighted by an eagle and three birdies, before closing with a 77 (+5) to secure the top spot.
The Knights showcased their depth with four additional top-10 finishes. Lexi Leavitt placed fifth at +21, followed closely by CC Banz in sixth at +22. Quin Shupe and Halle Western each finished tied for seventh at +23, while freshman Madi Frisby rounded out the scoring with an 11th-place finish at +25.
Southern Virginia will now take a short break before returning to action in April at the Greenbrier Intercollegiate, beginning April 6–7.
