BRIDGEWATER, Va. - At the Doc Jopson Invite, hosted by Bridgewater College, the Southern Virginia University men's and women's track and field teams had a productive weekend, scoring well in several events and taking home multiple event victories.
Men's Results
Zeke Newman collected his second event win in the last two weeks, this time in the long jump. He flew for 6.65m (21' 10") on his final attempt to snatch the victory while establishing a new personal best.
McCormick Johnson was the second Knight on the men's side to claim victory, tying with a Bridgewater athlete for the top spot in the pole vault.
A vault of 4.51m (14' 9.5") became the second highest clearance of Johnson's career, and is the best of his sophomore campaign so far. It also has him ranked top three in the South Region.
Eran James (Long Jump), Jak Martin (Pole Vault), Parker Arnold (Pole Vault), and AJ Word (Triple Jump) also claimed top three in their respective events.
Women's ResultsÂ
The women's team collected two wins in the field events as well. Mikki Prows continues an impressive season with a victory in the high jump. She also competed in the shot put, finishing 5th.
Anna Kunz was the other Southern Virginia victor, winning the pole vault with her teammate Surraiya Mahmud-Newman in tow who claimed second. Kunz cleared 3.19m (10' 5.5") on her second attempt to set a new personal best.
On the track, Maia Hunt qualified for the 100m final and finished 3rd in a time of 12.88 while Arianna Larchar and Kyra Lee collected podium finishes in the 10K on Friday evening.
Looking Ahead
The team now preps for its biggest regular season meet of the year at William & Mary. The Colonial Relays will take place from Thursday, April 2nd through Saturday.
The meet consists of many of the top teams in the region considering all levels of NCAA Track and Field. The Knights have a history of producing top times at the meet.
