BUENA VISTA, Va. - The Southern Virginia men's and women's track and field teams went split squad over the weekend, sending athletes to the EMU Heritage Invite and Lynchburg's Dennis Craddock Coaches Classic.
Men's Results
The men's team had one of their better weekends of the season, breaking two program records and placing top ten 14 different times.
Sawyer Apple collected another podium finish in the 110 hurdles while running a career best (wind-legal) time of 15.27. He also helped the Knights 4x400m relay to a season best.
The other program record on the men's side belongs to AJ Word, who broke through in the triple jump with a leap of 13.85m (45' 5.25"). He finished second in the field of 22.
The Knights dominated the javelin event at EMU, claiming three of the top five spots thanks to the work of Lincoln Trapp, Kavika Bringhurst, and Madsen Richardson.
Women's Results
The women took home event wins in both meets over the weekend. On Thursday at EMU, Bostyn Carlson took the javelin after a throw of 32.46m (106' 6"). In Lynchburg, Mikki Prows won the high jump by clearing 1.60m (5' 3"), tying her career best and finishing just ahead of teammate, Marin Simons.
Onto the track, Bayleigh Redd-Armstrong and Amee Newman took center stage in a thrilling mile event, finishing 4th and 5th in a loaded field with times of 5:00.23 and 5:02.43. For Newman, it's a career best and the second best time in team history.
Looking Ahead
The team has two meets on the schedule for this weekend, neither very far from Buena Vista. The Virginia Challenge, hosted by UVA in Charlottesville, as well as the Wildcat Twilight in Lynchburg, hosted by Randolph College.
