Southern Virginia Track & Field Rewrites Two Program Records at Colonial Relays

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - For one of the biggest regular season meets of the year, the Southern Virginia University track & and field teams competed in Williamsburg at William & Mary's 60th Colonial Relays.

The meet featured a large contingent of Division l programs, mixed in with several elite teams from the Division ll and Division lll ranks.

Men's Results

McCormick Johnson's record-breaking finish in the pole vault highlighted the field events on the men's side. Johnson cleared 4.62m (15' 1.5") in his first attempt to finish fourth in the field of 18. It marks a personal best and program record for the sophomore from Texas.

On the track, Sawyer Apple continues to make waves in the hurdles, finishing fourth overall by smashing his own program record with a time of 15.19. His time places him 12th in the South Region.

The men had six top-ten finishers in a highly competitive meet. Zeke Newman also dipped under 50 seconds in the 400 for the third time this season.

Women's Results

The Knights lone event victory belonged to Bayleigh Redd-Armstrong, whose incredible performance of 16:55.52 in the women's 5K helped her dip under 17 minutes for the first in her career. She's also the first to do so in Southern Virginia history.

Emma Hillam became the second fastest in the event in program history by crossing the line in 17:49.44, only the second to break 18 minutes at Southern Virginia behind the aforementioned Redd-Armstrong.

In her second appearance outdoors, Marin Simons placed third in the high jump with a clearance of 1.65m (5' 5"). She currently sits top fifteen in all of Division lll.

Mikki Prows had a tremendous day of her own in the same event, crushing her personal best by clearing 1.60m (5' 3") for the fourth best jump in team history.

12 women placed inside the top-ten during the weekend, including the DMR when the Knights established a new program record of 12:05.85.
