BUENA VISTA, Va. - In the first official game in Knight Arena for 2026-2027, the Southern Virginia University women's volleyball team clashed with one of the premier teams in the region, Lynchburg.

Unfortunately for the Knights, they fell behind early and couldn't recover, eventually losing in three sets.

Baylee Mirabal aided Southern Virginia's attack with five kills, while also posting 9 digs. Anne Downs led the team in digs with 13 and Laura Forsgren spent time as the Knights libero.

Ryann Vail, who finished top five in blocks for Division lll just a season ago, led both teams with two solo blocks and six in total.

After a decisive first set victory for the Hornets, Southern Virginia took a 10-8 lead in the second, but it evaporated after a 10-3 Lynchburg run which was enough to put the Knights away.. Ultimately, the visitors sealed the deal in the third.

Adah Elam and Lucy Richins split setting duties, posting 10 and 8 assists each.

Looking Ahead

The Knights will look to find the win column for the first time this season during a tri-match hosted by Randolph-Macon. They'll face Mary Washington on Saturday, September 5th at 1:00 PM, followed by the hosts at 3:00 PM.
