AMHERST, Va. With a combined 26 kills from Rika Larsen and Brynn
Hansen in both matches, the Southern Virginia Volleyball team swept
Randolph and Sweet Briar. Larsen recorded 9 kills against Sweet
Briar, and set the tone for the Knights, who now look at a 16-12
record for the season.
"We faced some big challenges in the early part of the season,"
said Head Coach Brian Pendleton. "To be where we're at now is a
testament to the hard work of these ladies. They never gave up on
the season, and we have the results to show what they accomplished.
I'm very pleased with their performance."
Ali Krebs continued her consistent form for the Knight offense
as she totaled 54 assists on the day. Defensively, SVU received
contributions from Hillary Congdon and Ashley Miles.
The Knights won the first match against Randolph in overwhelming
fashion as they cruised to a 25-17, 25-13 and 25-11 win. The hosts
put up a fight in the second match and were close to a game
victory, but eventually lost the game and the match 25-18, 25-20
and 25-19.
SVU will return to action for the final home matches of the
season when they square off against Virginia Intermont Oct. 29. The
start time is 6:30. SVU follows up with Senior Night Oct. 30, when
they have a rematch against Randolph. Game time is scheduled for
7:00.
