SPARTANBURG, S.C. The Southern Virginia Women's Basketball team
could not stop a hot shooting Wofford, and fell 89-35. Wofford shot
54% from the field on 36-of-66 shooting, and was extremely strong
in the first half where they shot 21-of-31 from the field.
The hot shooting of the hosts was too much for the Knights to
handle as they trailed 52-18 at the half. As hot as the hosts were,
SVU found itself out in the cold from the field as the team was
able to connect on only 24% of its shots.
Cara Joyner
was the leading scorer for the Knights with 10-points, and she also
pulled down the most rebounds for the team with 6. Mariah Flake and Carly Skinner
followed Joyner with 6-points apiece. The Knights had a bright spot
for the night as they made 17-trips to the free-throw line, and
converted on ten of those trips, shooting 58% from the line.
SVU also lost the battle of the rebounds, as Wofford overwhelmed
the boards with a 53-23 advantage. SVU is now 6-12 on the season. A
respite for the Knights will not be coming as they turn around for
another D.I team on Jan. 28. The Knights will travel to take on
Elon. Tip-off for the game is scheduled for 11:45 am, as they game
will be a community game for Elon with several elementary schools
invited to watch the game.
