Box Score

Written by Sean Dahlin

LYNCHBURG, Va.—The Southern Virginia University women's volleyball team dropped three straight sets (28-30, 15-25, 16-25) in a 3-0 defeat on Saturday at Old Dominion Athletic Conference-member Lynchburg College.

"We had a chance to win the first set but fell just short," said tenth-year Head Coach Michael Harmon. "Lynchburg is a quality program that took us out of our rhythm and capitalized on our mistakes."

Southern Virginia (3-12) fell behind early 7-1 in the first set before evening the score 8-8, after which there were three lead changes until Lynchburg (17-6) hung on for the two-point 30-28 set win.

Despite middle blocker Tori Tuttle (Anahola, Haw.) pacing the Knights with seven kills and five blocks, the second and third sets belonged to the Hornets as they finished the sweep on Saturday.

Southern Virginia's junior defensive specialist Jordan Geist (Jerome, Idaho) and freshman setter Katelynn Tlustek (Bedford, Ind.) recorded team-highs with 11 digs and 21 assists respectively. Freshman outside hitter Shannon Romito (Walker, La.) added seven kills in the loss.

Rebecca Loftis led Lynchburg with a game-high 12 kills while Rachel Turk recorded 20 assists for the win.

Women's volleyball returns home to Knight Arena in search of its second straight home victory, facing Mary Baldwin College on Oct. 16.
