BUENA VISTA, Va.—The Southern Virginia football team fell to Frostburg State Saturday afternoon 42-7, in the first home game of the season. The Bobcats led the game with 396 total yards while the Knights had a total of 109 yards.
In the fourth quarter the Knights had a 12-play drive that resulted in a four-year Lakeith Hopkins touchdown. Hopkins totaled 17 yards on seven carries. Jared Watts ran the ball 13 times for 40 yards. Shawn Honeycutt threw 8-16 for 53 yards and two interceptions. Collin Pearson led the Knights in receiving with 20 yards.
The defense fought hard for the Knights with 78 tackles and stopped Frostburg State multiple times from scoring, including a blocked field goal in the first quarter as part of a goal-line stand. Tristen Burnett led the fight with ten total tackles. Chris Owens and Joel Bergman each had seven tackles.
Dylan Dawson was 1-1 for extra point attempts and Kendall Kessing led the Knights with two kickoff returns for 20 yards.
Southern Virginia will head to Salisbury on September 26 to continue conference play. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
