SALSIBURY, Md.—The Southern Virginia University football team suffered their biggest loss in program history on the road to NJAC opponent Salisbury University, allowing 13 touchdowns while only scoring once.
The Sea Gulls (2-1, 2-0 NJAC), who were picked to finish third in the NJAC preseason coaches' poll, drew first blood within two minutes of kickoff and led 21-0 when the Knights (0-3, 0-2 NJAC) were able to put one across the line.
Southern Virginia's touchdown came with five minutes left in the first half from a 48-pass completion from quarterback Shawn Honeycutt to wide receiver Bryan Lorenzen.
Honeycutt finished the day with 68 yards, Lorenzen totaled two catches and 54 yards. Runningback Jared Watts led Knight rushers with 54 yards.
On defense Joshua Davis and Sam Mellor combined for 17 tackles.
The Knights had four turnovers during the game, three of them led to Salisbury touchdowns.
The Sea Gulls led 63-7 at the half and scored two touchdowns in each of the remaining quarters to get the 91-7 win.
The Knights will face No. 5 ranked Wesley College next Saturday, kickoff is a 1 p.m. in Dover, Deleware.
