The Southern Virginia football team travels to Memphis, Tennessee to take on the Lynx of Rhodes College on Saturday at 1 p.m. to start out the 2015 season. This will be the first meeting between these two teams.
Under the direction of second year head coach, Jason Walker, the Knights are looking to improve on their 1-9 record in the 2014 season.
The Knight offense is young and will look to running backs Lakeith Hopkins (junior) and John Harris (sophomore), as well as tight end Michael Carroll, who returns after a successful 2014 season with 281 yards and a touchdown. The defense will rely on the experience and strength of senior, Sam Mellor.
With nearly half of the team coming in as freshmen Southern Virginia football has a lot of building and growing to do this year.
The Knights are picked to finish tenth in the New Jersey Athletic Conference this season, according to the preseason coaches' poll, but hope to turn some heads and make some waves.
Rhodes College, a private liberal arts school in Memphis, Tennessee, has not lost at home since 2012—a ten-game home winning streak.
Last season Rhodes finished with an 8-2 record to take second in the Southern Athletic Association.
