MEMPHIS, Tenn.—The Southern Virginia Knights fell to Rhodes College 65-10 in the opening game of the season. The Lynx offense finished with 523 total yards compared to the Knights' 140.
Crosby Jensen and Shawn Honeycutt split time at quarterback. Jensen threw 14-32 for 56 yards and Honeycutt went 2-7 with 59 yards and a touchdown.
After allowing 44 points in the first half the Knights' freshman kicker Dylan Dawson hit a 35 yard field goal in the third quarter to put the Knights on the board.
In the fourth quarter, wide receiver Cody Barnes scored a 48-yard touchdown from a pass from Honeycutt. Lakeith Hopkins led the Knights in rushing with 27 yards on eight attempts.
On the defensive end Nick Watterson led the team with seven tackles and Brayden Barrus had six. Sam Mellor had four tackles including one sack.
The Knights have the week off to prepare for their first home game of the season on September, 19 against Frostburg State University. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
