About the Knights

The Southern Virginia football team returns home looking for their first New Jersey Athletic Conference win after falling on the road last week to Montclair State, 17-0.

The Knights average 210 yards offensively per game. Senior Michael Frye leads the team with 198 yards rushing and a touchdown. Seth Hanson also has a touchdown this season and 190 yards on the ground.

Defensively the Knights average nearly two takeaways per game.

Neil Davis was named NJAC Defensive Player of the Week and Keenan Galeai earned NJAC Offensive Rookie of the Week after their performances in week one.

Southern Virginia Coach Joe DuPaix

Coach DuPaix comes to Southern Virginia from Brigham Young where he served two seasons (2011-12) as the Cougar's recruiting coordinator and running backs coach. Working under then head coach Bronco Mendenhall, DuPaix was part of the staff that led the Cougars to an 18-8 overall record, including back-to-back bowl wins and a 10-win season in 2011.

Before BYU, DuPaix coached the slot backs at the United States Naval Academy. During his three years in Annapolis, the Midshipmen appeared in three consecutive bowl games, won two Commander-In-Chief trophies and ranked in the top-ten nationally for rushing offenses each season. He was also part of Navy's 10-win season in 2009.

In the season opener Coach DuPaix led the Knights to their season-opening win at Earlham College. The Knights defeated the Quakers 28-18.

Outlook from Coach DuPaix

Rowan is a really good, yet beatable team for us. They beat Salisbury, which really opened my eyes as to how competitive the New Jersey Athletic Conference is.

We have had a great week of practice and are ready to play this weekend.

The key to the game is controlling the ball and time of possession. We need to limit their scoring and make good decisions. Offensively we need to move the ball and get first downs, without have negative plays, including penalties.

The guys love playing at home, and it brings some added energy. It will also be our breast cancer awareness game, which everyone is affected by it in some way. It is good to have something to play for in front of our fans.

About the Profs

Rowan University averages 21 points per game and 347 yards offensively. The Profs suffered their only loss of the year to Montclair state, who also beat the Knights last week (with Southern Virginia allowing the least amount of points it has all season).

Last week Rowan topped Salisbury 34-30 last week at home, and beat Christopher Newport the week before that.

Gawain Bragg leads the Profs on the ground with 63 yards per game and three scores. Receiver Zac Frantz averages 75 yards per game and has hauled in five touchdowns.
