BUENA VISTA, Va.—The Southern Virginia football team suffered a 17-7 loss to Rowan University on Saturday afternoon at home.
Similar to the Salisbury game, the Knights (1-5, 0-5 NJAC) held the Profs (5-1, 4-1 NJAC) scoreless in the first quarter, then allowed a pair of scores in the second half. One being a 24-yard field goal, and the other a touchdown just before the half.
Rowan snagged another touchdown in the third quarter on a 48-yard carry by Gawain Bragg.
Southern Virginia made it onto the board in the fourth quarter as freshman Malakai Solovi recorded a 27-yard run to set up his own two-yard touchdown. Although the Knights got the ball back twice more in the fourth, they were unable to get any more points on the board and suffered their narrowest loss of the year.
Solovi finished with 46 yards in the game, averaging 9.2 yards per carry. Ty Jones led the Knights offence with 78 yards on the ground and 25 in the air. Michael Frye also recorded 46 yards carrying the ball.
