About the Knights

The Southern Virginia football team hosts William Paterson for Homecoming, and is still searching for their first New Jersey Athletic Conference win of the year, after narrowly falling to Rowen last week, 17-7.

In last week's game freshman Malakai Solovi scored his first touchdown of the year on a two-yard run, set up by his own 36 yard rush to give the Knights a first and goal.

The Knights average 217 yards offensively per game. Senior Michael Frye leads the team with 244 yards rushing and a touchdown, averaging 41 yards per game.. Seth Hanson also has a touchdown this season and 214 yards on the ground.

Quarterback Ty Jones averages 27 yards on the ground per game and has recorded rushing and receiving touchdowns.

Defensively the Knights average nearly two takeaways per game.

Neil Davis was named NJAC Defensive Player of the Week and Keenan Galeai earned NJAC Offensive Rookie of the Week after their performances in week one.

Southern Virginia Coach Joe DuPaix

Coach DuPaix comes to Southern Virginia from Brigham Young where he served two seasons (2011-12) as the Cougar's recruiting coordinator and running backs coach. Working under then head coach Bronco Mendenhall, DuPaix was part of the staff that led the Cougars to an 18-8 overall record, including back-to-back bowl wins and a 10-win season in 2011.

Before BYU, DuPaix coached the slot backs at the United States Naval Academy. During his three years in Annapolis, the Midshipmen appeared in three consecutive bowl games, won two Commander-In-Chief trophies and ranked in the top-ten nationally for rushing offenses each season. He was also part of Navy's 10-win season in 2009.

In the season opener Coach DuPaix led the Knights to their season-opening win at Earlham College. The Knights defeated the Quakers 28-18.

Outlook from Coach DuPaix

William Paterson is a very good football team and is very well coach. In this conference we can't base our projections on past performance against other teams. (William Paterson beat Montclair State, but lost badly to Salisbury last week).

The three keys for us this game are to win the turnover battle, eliminate negative plays including tackles for a loss and penalties, and win the special teams battles with kicks, punts and returns.

Last week we had more first downs than our opponent, now our goal is to win the first quarter and then win the first half. Once we accomplish that we can focus on winning an entire football game and looking forward to next week.

About the Pioneers

William Paterson University recorded their only conference win of the season on October 1, beating Montclair State 18-13 for homecoming. (The Knights lost to Montclair State 17-0 two weeks ago).

The Pioneers average 15.5 points and 224 yards per game and have 12 touchdowns on the year, only three of them coming on the ground.

William Paterson's top two quarterbacks average 68 yards per game and have three touchdowns each. Two wide receivers also have recorded passing touchdowns.
