UNION, N.J.—The Southern Virginia football team suffered a big loss at Kean University this weekend, falling to the Cougars 32-3.
The Cougars (4-4, 3-4 NJAC) scored the first 17 points of the game before the Knights (2-6, 1-6 NJAC) were able to get on the board with a 25-yard Sam Horman field goal with five minutes left in the half.
Kean ran back the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown to take a 24-3 lead at the half.
In the third quarter the Knights' punt was blocked out of the back of the endzone for a Kean safety. They then scored the final points of the game near the end of the third quarter for the 32-3 win.
Freshman Simi Moala led the Southern Virginia offense with 101 yards, including a 54-yard run in the fourth quarter.
Quarterback Ty Jones threw for 82 yards, a new career high and more passing yards than he has recorded thus far. Malakai Solovi recorded one recpetion of 55 yards.
Pei Tuiaki recorded one fumble recovery for the Knights and freshman Mitch Orme recorded 10 solo tackles and 1.5 for a loss.
Southern Virginia returns home next Saturday to host The College of New Jersey in the final home game of the year. Kickoff is at 1 p.m. at The Fields.
