MONTCLAIR, N.J.—The Southern Virginia football team fell 17-0 on the road to New Jersey Athletic Conference opponent Montclair State University.

Despite allowing the fewest points by an opponent this year, the Knights (1-4, 0-4 NJAC) were unable to get the offense going and lost 17-0 the Red Hawks (3-2, 2-2 NJAC).

Southern Virginia held Montclair St. scoreless in the first quarter, who put their first scoring drive of 55 yards together with 11 minutes to go in the first half.

The Knights had a chance in their final drive of the half after a Richie Sparrow blocked punt. Despite starting on the Red Hawks' 43-yard line they weren't able to score before time expired.

Late in the third quarter the Red Hawks kicked a 36-yard field goal to take a ten-point lead, and would score late in the fourth quarter on a 30-yard fumble recovery touchdown.

Freshman running back Malakai Solovi averaged 11.3 yards a carry with 45 yards on four attempts and a long of 36. Ty Jones and Seth Hanson each had over 30 yards on the ground.

Southern Virginia returns home for the next two weeks, hosting Rowan on October 15 before William Paterson comes to town for Homecoming weekend.
