EWING, N.J. — In the final game of the season, the Southern Virginia football team dropped its conference matchup against The College of New Jersey on Friday night by a score of 27-0.

Despite the holding the Lions (4-6, 4-5 NJAC) to just a field goal in the opening quarter, the Knights (2-8, 1-8 NJAC) allowed three touchdowns and another field goal in the second and third quarters.

On the offensive side of the ball, the Knights struggled to keep their drives alive on third and fourth downs, only converting one of 14 possible conversions. The team picked up 154 yards in total offense, including 95 on the ground. Tailback Akiva Wedge led the Knights with 30 yards on eight carries, while Jewka Patatefa carried the ball six times for 27 yards.

Quarterbacks Ty Jones and Tate Briggs each had two completions for a total of 59 yards. Wide out Baylor Harding had 43 of those yards on three catches.

Defensively, the Knights were unable to stop the Lions' passing attack, conceding 248 yards through the air. Defensive back Mitch Orme led the squad with 10 tackles and a fumble recovery, while Jackson Thompson tallied seven tackles with a forced fumble. Safety Neil Davis had six tackles and an interception, his third of the season. Freshman Marcelous Christer-Riley also forced a fumble in the game.
