Knights Overpowered by No. 6 Bobcats

FROSTBURG, Md. — The Southern Virginia University football team suffered a New Jersey Athletic Conference loss on Saturday afternoon, falling 61-7 to No. 6 Frostburg State.

The Knights (2-6, 1-6) were held to 127 total yards by the Bobcats (7-0, 6-0) nationally ranked defense. Southern Virginia running game was responsible for six of the nine first downs and 119 or the 127 yards.

Junior running back and current NJAC rushing yards leader Akiva Wedge recorded 99 yards on 21 carries, the most by an individual this season against the Bobcat defense.

The Knights lone score came late in the fourth quarter when quarterback Skylar Johnson led a 66-yard drive and scored on a quarterback option from five-yards.

Defensively, senior linebacker John Mellor led the team with 10 total tackles, including a tackle for loss. Last week's NJAC Defensive Player of the Week Neil Davis tallied nine tackles and a pass breakup, while Skylar Cloward recorded the only sack of the afternoon against the high-powered Bobcat offense.

The Knights return home for an NJAC matchup against William Paterson for homecoming on Saturday, Nov. 3 at Knight Stadium. Kickoff will start at 1:00 p.m.
