GREENSBORO, NC. — The Southern Virginia University Football team resumes action after the team's bye week, taking on Greensboro College in week six of the 2022 season on Saturday, October 8, at noon.
"We are similiar to Greensboro in many ways," said Head Coach, Ed Mulitalo. "Like every week, I have high expectations and I feel good about this game, but we need to prove it come Saturday."
The Series:
The teams meet for just the second time in program history with the first matchup coming in 2021, where Southern Virginia took the 31-14 victory in Knight Stadium.
After going up 17-0 and holding Greensboro scoreless in the first half, Davis Pinkston connected with Chase wester for a 31-yard touchdown pass, making it a two-score game.
Tyler Wester nailed down the 31-14 victory in the final minutes of the fourth quarter with his first career pick-six, returning the interception for a 12-yard touchdown.
Keys to the Game:
With Greensboro being a pass-heavy offense, Southern Virginia's secondary will need to keep the Pride's air attack at bay.
The Knights' defense will need to attack aggressively to disrupt Greensboro's passing scheme and force David Loughry II to throw tough passes and make difficult reads.
Scouting the Pride:
Greensboro is coming off a week six loss to third ranked Brevard on the road 31-13, after a second quarter barrage, where the Tornados scored three consecutive touchdowns to pull away with the lead.
Offensively, the team is ran through redshirt senior quarterback David Loughry II. On the year, Loughry is averaging a 53.16 completion percentage through the air, recording 1196 total yards and eight touchdowns while also throwing eight interceptions.
Rodney Scott Jr. currently leads the Pride in scoring with two touchdowns and will look to lead the ground attack against he Knights.
Sophomore linebacker Max Steele anchors the defense, leading the team with 45 total tackles (23 solo, 22 assisted).
Impact Players:
Jahl Freeman and Josh Thomsen will be relied on heavily to maintain the Pride's receivers in the pass game. Freeman and Thomsen are combined for 15 tackles, along with one pass breakup on the year.
Maikeli Tuinakauvadra will look to be a menace in the trenches and force Loughry out of the pocket to make tough passes.
